Hilton Head Island has long been known for its recreation and sports. While most think of it as primarily a golf mecca it is also world renowned for its tennis facilities. With 17 public golf courses and 6 private courses on the island and 13 public and 13 private courses just over in Bluffton a round of golf is only a moment away. Two tennis greats make their homes here so you can take tennis lessons at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy or Van de Meer Tennis. There is also the award winning Palmetto Dunes Tennis and we even have public courts to play on too.

As we are an island you can image there is tons of things to do on the water. We have all kinds of boats from sunfish sail boats you can rent on the beach to yachts that grace Harbour Town or the back yard of mansions in Wexford. From parasailing near the Lighthouse to jetsking the intercoastal, or kakaying through the spartina grass to taking a cruise to Savannah we can meet all your boating needs.

On most of the trips you can see dolphins as they are plentiful in our waters. There are specific tours you can take in all different modes of transportation from kayaks to inflatable zodaic boats to a large catamaran where you can bring your own food and drink to enjoy the trip.

The Island Recreation Center has a large outdoor olympic pool where laps can be swum even in the winter (they put a cover over it) and they also have basketball and tennis courts. Soccer fields abound in a couple of different areas of the island as well as ball fields. We even have our very own Hilton Head Rugby team that competes here and in the Southeast. Volleyball is played on the beach in front of the Tiki Hut and even if you don't play it is fun to watch with a cold drink in your hand. We also have a roller hockey rink and skate park.

Running / walking events and triathlons are a mini industry here. We have many events throught the year from The Turkey Trot, Bridge Run to the Firecracker Run. We are ideal for triathlons as our ocean is usally pretty calm, our sand is hard packed and our roads are flat. In essence whatever sports or recreation you are into whether it is walking, biking, yoga, golf or kite boarding Hilton Head is the place for you.
