During your next Hilton Head Island vacation, take a day off from golf and tennis. Why not charter one of the island’s boats or yachts and have a deep sea fishing excursion? Hilton Head’s local boat charters can rent out by the hour, so you can ask your guide to take your group out as far as 50 miles into the water! For something even more adventurous, stretch your trip into the Gulf Stream! Trips can take anywhere from one hour to more then 10, so plan accordingly and bring enough food and drinks to last the duration.
Cobia is one of the most exciting fish to catch in the springtime. Other popular catches include Grouper, Amberjack, Barracuda, Black Sea Bass, Black Drum, Blue Runner, Bluefish, White Grunt, King Mackerel, Marlin, Spanish Mackerel, Sheepshead, Spottail Pinfish, Red Fish, Red Porgy, Red Snapper, Spotted Seatrout, Spadefish, Tarpoon, Triggerfish, Tuna, and Wahoo. You could even catch a shark! The waters surrounding Hilton Head Island contain dozens of species of shark…but don’t worry, you won’t run into any Great Whites.
The type of charter you schedule will predict the type of fish you will catch. Likewise, if there are certain fish you have in mind, ask your guide/charter company which charters will grant you the best opportunity to catch your favorite fish. Fishing charters are available year round here, but they will always depend on the weather. Your guides keep your safety in mind at all times, so be aware that a bad storm may affect your scheduled trip.
