Architects are responsible for planning, designing, and getting involved to a degree in their building’s construction. The architect mediates between the client and the builder. Architects have to be familiar with the area’s architectural standards and codes; and in Hilton Head Island, there are many building codes. Hilton Head is strict on architects and builders because the town works hard to preserve a small town feeling. Driving along William Hilton Parkway into Hilton Head, you might notice that all business’ signs are the same colors. Soft shades of tan, green, rose, and dusky blue are mostly the only colors allowed because Hilton Head prefers everything to blend into the environment instead of looking over-developed. Few streetlights line the roads and no road signs are lit, so if you plan to drive around Hilton Head Island after dark it would be in your best interests to familiarize yourself with the area beforehand so that you can find what you are looking for.
