Hilton Head Island Videos

The Island Beauty

Video transcript:

Cathy Evangelista:

HILTON HEAD ISLAND... AT HOME IN PARADISE:

I live on Hilton Head Island. It's an impressive claim, especially to those who only know the island as this beautiful Southern paradise! And although we live, work, and play here in Paradise every day, we never take it for granted! Now, I've only lived here for a short while, so I've enlisted the help of longtime resident, Dr. Arthur Segal, to help guide you along your way, as you discover why so many people are in love with Hilton Head!

Dr. Arthur Segal:

THE WATERS OF HILTON HEAD ISLAND:

Hello, Cathy, and hello...welcome to Hilton Head Island! As you're well aware, Hilton Head Island is surrounded by water. We have the oceans on one side and beautiful marshes on the other. Now, these marshes change color every single day, and that's due to the seasons and also to the grasses. These marshes are so important to our island's eco-system!

NATURAL BEAUTY:

Hilton Head Island has a wide array of both flora and fauna! We're a sub-tropical area so we have both palm trees and pine trees. My favorite tree is the live oak, covered with Spanish moss! These trees are protected by our laws, and the flowers that bloom all times of the year are just gorgeous! We have wild deer on Hilton Head Island, and bald eagles close by in Bluffton on the May River! And our sea fowl are just a joy to watch! Sitting and watching birds coming home each night to roost-turning the green trees into what looks like giant white balls of cotton adorning them-is one of the most precious moments on Hilton Head Island! We have dolphins and even manatees in our waters. On any day, one can take a kayak or even a motor- or sailboat into Broad Creek (known as "Dolphin Alley") and see these wondrous creatures come right up to you! Walking on the beach at night, you can hear these dolphins actually call to each other. It's just a wonderful place to be, on Hilton Head!

PLANTATION LIVING:

Living in a gated community gives us on Hilton Head Island the best of all worlds. We truly have a sense of community and fellowship here where we know our neighbors and can be of love and service to them. We can have peace and quiet in our homes and along our private nature-preservation areas, yet in minutes we could be enjoying all the wonderful things our tourists have on Hilton Head Island - the beaches, the restaurants, the hotels, the arts, the sports - and the list just goes on!

CAREFUL GROWTH:

Since I first came to Hilton Head in 1975 as a vacationer, there has been much growth. We have 4,000 full-time residents now, but are blessed with a government doing their best to not allow this growth to interfere with the overall vision of Man living at peace with nature that Charles Fraser had when he began to develop Hilton Head Island.
