The Coligny Theater reopened in 2001 following a brief four-year closing. This single-screened theater mostly shows independent films targeted for upscale adult audiences, and occasionally hosts film workshops and festivals. Movies show two to four times a day: late morning, one or two matinees, and early evening. In contrast, the Northridge Cinema theater has 10 screens showing popular, largely advertised films. Movies here are intended for the public, unlike the Coligny Theater's specialized audience. A third cinema complex is located at Park Plaza and has seven screens. The fourth movie theater within a decent distance of Hilton Head Island is a short ride away into Bluffton, at the 12-screen Sea Turtle Cinemas.
