Instead of risking a painful burn from hours spent at one of our wide beaches, occasionally it's nice to step inside a cool tanning booth and lie down - or stand up - and listen to music under concentrated rays which may be safer than sunlight. Of course, you should ask the tanning salon you choose if their beds use UVA and UVB lighting, and definitely ask your doctor beforehand if this method of tanning is safe for you.
For an extra glow, try a professionally applied spray tan! Whether your normal skin tone is porcelain-pale or a bit freckled, once your coat of color is set, it shouldn't rub off on your clothing, and it will last several days for a natural but safely bronzed appearance!
