Snowbirds" in Hilton Head Island, SC
Many visitors like to come to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina during the warm months of the year from April until September, but when most vacationers leave the island, a rare breed of birds appear. Most scientists identify birds by shape or flight pattern but on Hilton Head, you don't have to be an ornithologist to spot a snowbird!

These snowbirds tend to travel in pairs and like to get away from the cold weather up north. While they've migrated to the warmth of the Lowcountry, these snowbirds find many different outdoor activities to keep them busy. With over 40 different golf courses on Hilton Head Island, Daufuskie Island and Bluffton, this is the perfect location for snowbirds to play a couple of rounds of golf each week to help keep the low handicaps that most snowbirds take pride in on the golf links.

While many snowbirds enjoy golfing in the Hilton Head area, other flocks of snowbirds enjoy the variety of tennis facilities and first class tennis courts in almost every location of the island. Many of the tennis facilities have leagues for their members and the leagues are split up by sex, playing experience and single or group play. This is a perfect way for singles or couples to meet other snowbirds with similar interests and hobbies.

If tennis or golf on Hilton Head Island is not what you're looking for, there are a number of other outdoor activities. Some of these include strolling on nature trails, bicycling on one of the many different bike paths, indoor swimming at one of the covered pools, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating or sailing.

The prices for rental homes, condos and villas on the Island in the winter months are a lot more reasonable than vacationing from the middle of March until the end of September. There are no long lines at restaurants and many places offer great early bird specials or discounts to seniors as well. The snowbirds that migrate to Hilton Head love visiting for many different reasons. Maybe this year, you should come and find out what is so special about extended vacationing in Hilton Head during the winter months.
